I am installing this par can to the ceiling:

I am going to use this relay to control it from another circuit.

Will it be OK to use this relay. My concern is that the 10 amp relay would be dangerous with a 15 amp 120v circuit

  1. It looks like the bulb is 200W, so it will draw under 2 amps. So your 10A relay is plenty big enough. You could maybe even squeeze three or four of these lamps onto the one relay.

The 15A you refer to is just the maximum your circuit breaker (and wiring) can take, don't worry about it.

  2. Where are you getting the 15 amps from? The only thing that will draw current is the lamp and that is not listed on their site. 10 amp at 120 volts is 1200 watts and that is one heck of a hot lamp. Even if you are going to use a 500 watt lamp the relay will work OK.

  3. The relay contacts are rated at 10 amps.  It is a double pole relay, so you have two of them at 10 amps each, they can be hooked parallel which brings the rating up to 20 amps.

The relay is adequate, but I am wondering how you are going to dress the wires to and from it so they don't become a shock or fire hazard.  And I am wondering where you will get the 12 volts DC to actuate the relay.
