Question:

Using Seafoam In My 1972 Chevelle. Please Answer, 10 Points Given?

I just cleaned out my tank. Took it off, got old gas out and put new gas in and cleaned out the lines leading to the fuel pump. Replaced fuel pump and cleaned out the line that heads up to the carb. So basically, the car pumps and operates fine. Now, new gas goes through the line and is operating fully. However, right now, the tank is a 20 gallon tank and there is only 5 gallons of gas in there (just wanna get it started and let it idle - get it back into running condition). So once new gas started coming out instead of the bad gas, hooked it up to the carb and started it up. It starts and works fine. But I bought a can of Seafoam at my local parts store. They said that since I drained the old gas out and put new gas in, it would be a good idea to add 1/3 of the can to the tank, 1/3 to the oil and I don't even know what else. Not a big fan of using chemicals but hey, I love this car so if I should do it and any info, let me know! Gunna be working on this car tomorrow! Answer away!

  1. the people at your parts store are rightthird of the can to the fuel then fill the tank and third maybe a lil more depending on the size of the can run it for a long time i would say go on a real long drive get nice and warm. after about 2000 mile change the oil 10w 40 and you should be good

  2. ive used seafoam many times on vehicles to remove moisture. works gr8 in tank or crankcase. never caused a problem, doesn't hurt the engine. its a good item.

  3. The best way to use SeaFoam is to put one whole can into a FULL gas tank.  Then, put half a can in with the engine oil.  With the last half can, find a good vacuum source (usually the brake booster line if you have one) and using a funnel, slowly pour the SeaFoam in, with the car running.  You could also spray the carburetor down with SeaFoam's Deep Creep carburetor cleaner.

Afterwards, take it for a drive, getting some good revs in to clean everything out.  There will probably be a lot of smoke.  This is normal.  It will go away.

One final thing.  Change your oil no more than 250 miles after using SeaFoam.  It will be very dirty with all the cargon and gum broken loose.

  4. if you done cleaned out the tank and every thing else. I wouldn't add any chemicals to it.
