  1. I hand-pick any catepillars off my plants, to include the tomato hornworm.  Bug and beetle larvae on plants I remove by pinching off the leaves...except for cabbage.  The only plants I've used Sevin on is on my cabbage plants because the cabbage looper is one persistent littIe booger.

  2. I was told Basil helped with bugs, though I've never tried it myself.

  3. Sevin is some heavy duty stuff.  Not just to bugs but to you, too.

Here's a website that discusses a natural alternative.  Much safer both for you and the environment.

If you do decide on Sevin, know the risks.

Wear a face mask while working with it.

  4. pick them b******s off and feed them to the chickens, chickens love them!make your rounds once in the morning once in the evening,no need to use any spray(save the spray for the white flies!)those worms can destroy a tomato plant in a blink,of course they deserve to live, just somewhere way away from the tomato garden!

    - Insecticides. Your garden can be made Hornworms-resistant by the use of chemicals like bacillus thuringiensis, carbarl, permethrin, spinosad, sevin dust/liquid, dipel dust, etc (read the label carefully and do some research before using). Bacullus thuringiensis (BT) is an insecticide that attacks the digestive system of some insects and is not typically considered harmful to humans.
