I'm trying to call a cell phone in Argentina from Canada, and the call won't go through!! I've dialed the 10-10 Yak (or 10-15 Looney) number, then 011 then 54 for Argentina, then the area code plus the number, and the call won't go through. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't want to pay the $2.19 a minute to try calling using my regular home phone.... can anyone help me get through to Argentina??

  1. Yak 1010-925 only works from your registered home PSTN telephone.  I don't think cell phone providers allow 1010-925 calls (they have to have an established billing agreement with Yak)

Otherwise, if you are dialing from your home phone, it should work as you described.  Or, perhaps the cell number isn't correct, or there is just a problem with that cell service provider and Int'l calling?

Or, if you have enough tech savvy to "roll your own" Calling Card, try http://www.cqvoip.com for rates as low as 2.7 cent/min to Argentina landlines, or 12 cents/min to Argentina mobile phones.

Or, just use VoIP from your PC.

My brother in New Mexico uses Skype to call Brazil regularly.

There are various other PC VoIP services with low Int'l rates:

    Skype, Gizmo5, MediaRingTalk, Efonica
