Hi can anybody PLEASE help me with this. I have done an extension to my loft and I need to get the necessary certification for the work I have done in order to sell my house. However I was told that I need to get Fire-proofing for the two new cupboard doors in the loft that I put in. Can I use zinc sheets to do this??

If not what other material could I use besides plasterboard?? Also I live in London could you also recommend where I could buy the fire-proofing material for cheap.Thank you in advance

  1. NO!

Zinc melts in the heat, special plasterboard reinforced with glass fibre is often used but if it needs to be fireproofed it will also need to be certified!

The only way it can be certified is to  use and approved contractor and certified material are much more expensive than standard ones.

Do not waste your tile trying this on the cheap it will end up costing you money - look up contractors in loft conversions or fire-proofing.

Without the certification its doubtful you'll sell your house. In fact in the current market its doubtfull you'll sell your house full stop! unless you make it £50,000 cheaper than similar houses, people are NOT paying for quality or space now just buying the cheapest!

  2. I'm a builder and what you say is not true ..I've never had to fireproof cupboard doors ..ever ...and I've done lots of conversions ..all to building regs standard ...but if you want to you could all ways paint the back with fireproof paint
