Question:

Using a 3 phase RCD on single phase.

I have a 3 phase RCD that I want to use on a single phase. Will the fact that 2 phases are missing result in constant tripping (or not resetting in the first place)? If so is there a quick 'link the terminals' type solution or do i need to buy a (stupidly expensive) single phase RCD. Any help appreciated

  1. There's only one phase missing. Single phase has two hots. Go with the single phase RCD.

  2. Depending on current required it might be cheaper to use a static phase converter (http://www.phaseconverter.com/static-con... or build your own   http://www.homemetalshopclub.org/project...  http://www.metalwebnews.com/howto/phase-...   http://home.att.net/~waterfront-woods/Ar... ........ but if you don't want to have 3 phase outputs then if you leave the 3rd phase wire unconected it should work  http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hba...
