Using a Japanese DS in the US?

Hey guys. I stopped by one of the game shops in Japan today, and they told me that I can play US games on a Japanese DS, but the adaptor/charger of the Japanese DS won't work in the US. Now, I have a US DS charger back at home in the US. Do you think that it should work fine if I just go ahead and use the Japanese adapter on an American outlet? Should I just use my US charger on the Japanese DS? Or will that US charger fry my system?

the US charger would work fine with the Japanese DS since the charger is the one that has different electric volts, not the system itself.
