Question:

Using a barometer?

I have an barometer and a therometer with a device that measures humidity. The therometer and humidity readings are working correctly but the barometer isn't. When we had that thunderstorm in Manatee county a couple days ago, the barometer didn't even drop a little. There aren't any batteries to install. Could it be becase the barometer was in my room and not outside? What's wrong with it?

  1. give it more time and see if it changes. If not then its broken. A barometer works via a sealed container with a rubber covering, attached to a needle, when atmospheric pressure changes the volume in the sealed contained will change and the excess volume will move the needle.

  2. You should keep it near a window that's open often or a door that goes outside that's used often. It helps get a more accurate reading because yours might just be measuring the air pressure in your room which doesn't change much. If that doesn't work then you should bring it back and exchange it because I have one near my front door and it works fine. Good luck.

  3. Thunderstorm don't have any affect on a barometer, but when a low or high pressure system comes into the area, that will affect the barometer, by the way the device that measures humidity is called a hygrometer.
