Using a business phone on a regular residential line?

I have a fancy business phone that, when plugged into a regular residential line, doesn't work at all. What is different about the business phone from a regular phone that the lines aren't compatible? Is there an adaptor?

the business phone needs to be plugged into a jack that is connected to a telephone system.

while there are some system phones that will provide very basic functions while connected directly to a POTS line, 99% of the time you need to have a phone system in place to be able to use the phone at all..

your best bet is to sell the phone you have on ebay or something, it would probably be too expensive to have a phone system installed just for you to be able to use the phone you have.
