Question:

Using a digital camera memory card with two different cameras?

When I got a new digital camera, I popped in the memory card from my old camera and started taking pictures. When I went to upload the pictures I was able to upload the new ones, but the images taken on the old camera show the message "Incompatible JPEG". I would like to upload these images also but they do not show up when I try. There are also some videos on there that do not show up at all on the new camera or computer, but they will play fine when the memory card is in the old camera. What have I done wrong, and can it be fixed?

  1. No, you can't.

  2. No, you haven't done anything wrong.

Different cameras record video or pictures in different formats.

All you have to do is have different programs on your computer, Real player, power DVD , Nero, VLC etc.

    One of them will work

Try it. It worked for me.

  3. This does happen, Your old camera writes files and it knows not to write over the old files because of it's own language, then when you place it in the new camera, it clue that there are files that it is writing over because it uses a different language and as you take new photos your old photos get written over.  You may still see some of them on the camera, but other info like location of where they are on the stick could have been written over so your computer doesn't see them.  This is a simplification of what is going on, you might be able to fiddle with it to see if you can get some back, but it might not happen, and I'm pretty sure this is what is happening when you go back and forth.  Even with in the same company of cameras this happens, It did it to me when I used a Canon 10D and the upgrade Canon 30D.

One thing I would try is since you can see them through your camera, try uploading your photos through a cable from the camera to your computer instead of taking the card out.  Good luck, and sorry for the bad news. you should buy a card for each camera.
