  1. That depends.  You'll need to be very close (10-15 feet) for the flash to do any good.  Otherwise, if you have a camera where you can set the ISO level, go to the highest available level and take some test sots.  They will be grainier, but that is how you canshoot in low light without a flash.  Also, a slower shutter speed can help dealwthi low light, but you pictures can get blurry.  The bottom line, unfortunately, is that without a pretty good quality camera, and possibly somebulky equipment like a tripod, it is pretty tough to get good photos in low light.  But try the ISO trick... it may help you out. Good luck

  2. Let's see.  it will be dark where you will be photographing.  Should you use flash?  Well, if you want any sort of image to come out, then, yes, you need to use your flash.

The problem with such a low-light situation is that you can't see to aim or focus the camera.  The good thing is, that most of those cameras are auto focus, and if you take the photo with everything you want on one side, you can always edit on the computer!

Use your flash portait setting, check as you go, and make sure you are set for enough light...you may want to set it for the highest film speed possible.

The flash, btw, will pretty much freeze the action of people dancing, and the flashing lights from the dj will make for some cool special effects if you shoot it right...some movement, with a nice bright flash that stops movement.
