Hey guys,

I am looking to buy a snowboard soon. I would really like to get an All-mountain board, but they have a whole bunch of freestyle boards at my local store that I like.

My question is: Is it ok to use a freestyle board as an All-Mountain board? What are the downsides?

  1. u can use a freestyle board for all-mountain riding ur just gonna have to put a little more effort for carving cause freestyle boards have a lot more flex than other boards so ur gonna have to push harder to carve but wat u want to avoid riding back country with a freestyleboard at all cost cause or else itl snap since u need to lean backwards a lot the board with snap in half

  2. I matters about your weight and height otherwise it dosen't matter. A mountian board is more for steep mountians and alot of powder. A freestyle board is more for a bit of everthing. Like park, pipe, groomed surfaces, powder, rails and jibbs. It dependes if you are going to ride a all mountian board just on heli skiing.

  3. Some freestyle boards are very soft true-twin boards (usually called Jib board) which are less suitable for all mountain riding.

Other boards are "twinish" with some setback (like 3/4") which are a little stiffer are fine for most all mountain riding - everything except for carving on really hard / groomed runs and maybe the deepest powder.

    Good Luck

  4. You can basically split freestyle boards into two catigorys

    1. Jib Boards - These boards are great for rail riding, small kickers, jibs, buttering, spinning etc. The will be flexaxble and will be twin tipped ( nose and tail same shape). They will be easy to ride but wont handle well at high speeds or in powder.

Some well known jib boards are Rome Artifact, Burton Dominant, Ride Kink.

2 All mountain freestyle - These boards can be ridden over the whole of the mountain but are more freestyle oriented than freeride. They are good for large kickers, pipe riding, backcountry freestyle, rails etc. They can be either twin tipped or directional and will be stiffer than a jib board.

Some well known all mountain freestyle boards are Rome Agent, Ride DH, K2 Zepplin.

So if the board you get is an all mountain freestyle board you will be ok. Good luck with the riding.
