Using a fuse for the amp power cord?

how does that work

and i seen it at the front by the battery but would it work the same if it was on the other end right by where it connects to the amp

im talking about the fuse that splits the power cord so it doesnt short out the amp

  1. Put it no more than 15 inches from the battery. NEVER put it in the back by the amp. If it is put there and the power cable gets a short, the whole cable between the fuse and battery has power and could cause a fire.


  2. you HAVE to put it by the battery because it also protects the wire itself, if its by the amp the wire could fry all the way from the battery to the amp and short out causing very expensive electrical problems, not to mention frying your amp

  3. Its mainly to protect your battery and all other car electrical components in the system.. You should always install the fuse as close to the battery as possible to protect the circuit its not mainly to protect the amp..

  4. The vast majority of amps on the market come with a fuse built into the amp, itself. A fuse in the power cord to the battery would only be necessary if this wasn't the case or if you were planning on bypassing an amp and were wiring subs or speakers directly to the battery
