Using a headset on PS2 Games Online? ?

I have a network adapter and I can play games online now through my playstation. I also have the headset. I know how to hook everything up, but how so I talk to my opponents? How do I know if they also have a headset? Do I just start talking and they can hear me?? Can they hear even if they don't have a headset?? Please help!!

For them to hear you need to have a headset that has a mic on it, and they need to have a headset. If you both want to talk back and forth you both need a headset with a mic. Normally you can not tell untill people start to talk or you hear the background noise. Then you know someone else is on the other side and can hear you.
