Using a mobile in a car .?

sat in my car,keys in hand,engine off,using a mobile in a road parking space.policeman walks by and tells me its against the law to do so and that if he wanted to he could give me a on the spot fine.rather than argue with him i hang up and bid the copper good day.is that right or did i just get a policeman having a bad day.i was in my aston martin db9s.

If you were parked in a safe and suitable place. (Not a hard shoulder) And the engine was off. Then you was in the right. I know 'cos I just passed my theory test today. :D

if the engine was off and the keys were in your hand (not in the ignition) then i would have said to the "cop" " please give me a ticket insted" as it is not illegal to use your phone when the car is not in motion (standing) and yes you had a "cop" having a baby day.....

You have quite an imagination. First of all, let's put an end to the notion that you have an Aston Martin DB9. If you did, you would not type like a third-grade child. Second, the police have no reason to approach anyone sitting in a parked car in a parking spot with the engine off and keys out of the ignition for  mobile phone use. Third, there is no such thing as an on-the-spot fine. This is a bogus question. Congrats on getting people to fall for it.

The police officer was wrong because your engine was off.

if your engine is off, then the policeman should not have said what he did. if you were stopped, with keys in hand on your phone, this is fine.

It's not illegal to use your phone as long as you are parked up and the engine must be off.

The only time that would be illegal is if you're on the hard shoulder of the motorway and your call wasn't an emergency.
