I am flying out of Miami in a few weeks to go to Barbados. I am getting my passport in a few days. What is the process of going through customs. How early do I need to be at the airport.

  1. They say 3 hours when taking an international flight.  Sometimes you can whip right through customs - others -- it takes a while.  Just be patient and don't get lippy with the agents -- they can make your life miserable at both ends.  While in Barbados - if you are in the area - be sure to take a tour on the Jolly Roger pirate ship -- it is a great adventure.

  2. Since Secruity is long. maybe a long line. Now if u have like a computer or some makeup in your purse. They will take that away s****. careful what u put in there. I'd say 3 hours before the flight.

  3. Be there about two hours before your flight.  They are just going to ask you why you are there, where you are staying, how long you plan to be there, if you have brought any fruit or veggies with you (both going and coming).  You also have to fill out these little forms that ask if are bringing in really expensive items into the country.  Don't worry, just be nice to the customs dude and it will be a snap! :)

  4. At least 3 hours before your flight.

  5. when you are flying out of Miami you dont go though US customs (you will go though Barbados customs though

and US customs on the return

and your passport act as government ID as well

  6. It's like going through another security check. They may or may not check your bags, ask what you're going for. Customs is just an extra step added to your trip. It's nothing to worry about. But if you have anything specific in mind that you want to bring back I would check to make sure what is ok to bring back ex. there's a limit to how much alcohol that you can bring back, food and fruits normally are restricted, if you go to a duty-free store which is tax exempt stores you can shop in over seas, they have a price limit on purchases brought back. So on the plane ride back they normally have you fill out a paper on the things that you purchased or are claiming. I hope that this helped a little bit and have fun don't let customs get in the way of your fun.

  7. I have never travelled to Barbados but here is how it usually went when I travelled:

You should normally be at the airport 3 hours before any international flight. While on the plane, you probably will be given a little form to fill out (asking what is your nationality, why you are travelling there, where were you born...)

When you arrive, you go directly to the customs and present your form along with your passport. They will then stamp your passport to show when you entered the country (to prove you did not enter illegally).

You should go through the same process when you come back.

  8. Most flights require you to be 2-3 hours early.  Check the fine print on your itinerary to be sure, or call the airline if in doubt, however I would say three hours should be fine.  Furthermore, you should not require ID in addition to your passport, unless the photo does not look like you.  Be sure to record your passport number in another safe location, and also leave your passport number with someone at home (in case of emergency).

    Enjoy your trip!
