Question:

Using baking soda to brush teeth

I read that using baking soda to brush your teeth can help remove stains and whiten your teeth. Do I just sprinkle some baking soda on top of my toothpaste and brush normally, or do I just put baking soda on my brush and brush with only baking soda.

  1. I think you can do either - but why not add the baking soda to the toothpaste.

  2. When you think about the origins of tooth paste you eventually come little tales about how it was made way back when...before whitening agents and artificial mint and glacial blasts!  Anyway, back in the day tooth paste was made with straight baking soda, a tiny bit of water and if you were into foo-fooey flavors you could put in flavor extracts like vanilla or whatever.  Today you don't really have to mess with any of that gritty mess because Arm 'n Hammer has taken care of the hard work and mixed it all together into one very potent baking soda toothpaste.  You really can't compare straight baking soda toothpaste to the stuff we have now.  Seriously, I know making it yourself is so much cheaper but have you ever seen folks in pictures from back then smile?  There's a reason for that.

On the other hand, if you'd like to try it out just take a couple of grams of baking soda and add in just enough peroxide to make a um...paste.  Unflavored it's going to be a taste sensation so brace yourself...unless you can find something to add to it.  Have fun and play around with the amounts.  You can also mix it with water but it's not as effective...make sure you floss afterwards because it's GRIT-TY!

  3. I have brushed my teeth with baking soda and peroxide since I was a very young girl and I am 55 and have strong teeth and my gums are in good shape. I have no problems. So I was agree that it is good for stains and healthy teeth

  4. in a clinche we have used just baking sode on top of brush and perform routine brushing

also regular table salt in moderate to lesser amount...a db will do you....
