Using charcoal lighter fluid to refill a zippo?

Is it absolutely necessary to use zippo lighter fluid? Or can plain charcoal lighter fluid work just as well...without side effects

  1. Yaaaa no...the fumes themselves can ignite , If you dont clean the outside of the lighter its going to catch your lighter and your hand on fire...

    Anyways lighter fluid at walmart or dollar stores are cheaper than starter fluid arent they?

    Try looking for Ronsonol lighter fuel , its in a yellow can

  2. it doesnt have to be zippo brand fuel, but lighter specific fuel is always best.  the spout is the right size and you won't have to buy a large can of charcoal fuel.  most gas stations will have lighter specific fuel for around $2 if you ask for it.

  3. If you are careful, it might work.  I tried that same move in my teens and almost burnt my house down.  I spilled some on the outside of the lighter because the spout of the c.lighter fluid was so big.  When I tried to light the lighter the whole thing caught on fire.
