Hi,

I am planning to use entirely compost to grow my new plants without mixing it with top soil.

Is this going to be a problem?

Thanks

  1. no  it will really help your plant. grow bigger and better

  2. plants need more than compost to grow well... there's micronutrients and microbes in the soil that are necessary to them.... they may start out okay in compost only, but they'll not continue to do well.....now, if they can get  roots down into the soil below the compost, sure, they'll be  fine.....

  3. You don't have to add soil, but compost will probably hold too much moisture for most plants to thrive. Some other options are sand, perlite & vermiculite to help the compost drain.

  4. I never had a problem. works even better with sand .

  5. I don't think that will be a problem. Compost is very rich and has all the nutrients your plants will need. People just mix it with soil to spread it out and make it last long or stretch it over a greater area of the garden.

  6. Compost is good for adding nutrients to soil and keeping moisture.  It's difficult to grow plants in a medium of pure compost.  Add regular old topsoil to the mix and use that instead.
