Question:

Using old home theatre system (with old dvd player) through upscaling dvd?

I want to watch HD quality movies on my T.V. with surround sound.

Problem is, the speakers only connect to the back of the OLD dvd player -- one of those home theatre systems in a box kind of deal.

I have a new Samsung full HD upscaling DVD player to go with my new Samsung LCD TV. Is there any way I can connect the new upscaling DVD player to the old DVD player to use the speakers it came with???

T.V. -- 2 HDMI ports, optical

OLD DVD PLAYER -- Digital out

NEW -- Hdmi, digital out, optical

  1. ya, you would need an audio input on the old dvd player to run the audio from the new player, to the old one, and out the speakers...

  2. If the only port on the old player is digital out you are out of luck ... short of hacking the wiring.

I suspect you will have to find a replacement amp/receiver. You don't need new and you don't need HDMI connectivity (although it would be nice) -- only a digital or optical input.

Consider a used or discontinued or open box model and you should be able to get something better than you now have for under $200.

    Sorry.
