Question:

Using powdered detergent in HE washing machines

Am I blind, or does a powdered laundry detergent for HE washing machines not exist because it doesn't make a difference? Our machine's instructions say you can use powdered detergents, but I haven't seen any kind in the store with the little he logo on it saying its safe for those kinds of machines... So my question is, are all powdered laundry detergents safe in HE washing machines?

Thanks for your help!

  1. For powder H.E detergents are hard to come buy. They mostly mark H.E kind in liquid form.

There is Tide H.E/Sears H.E Free & Clear Dye

  2. use any detergent.  run the water, add the soap, and make sure it's dissolved before adding clothes.  when in doubt, read the owner's manual.

  3. No, powdered detergents are not ideal for front loaders.  Costco did sell a powder that was HE "compatible".  Didn't say it was recommended for HE's, just compatible.  Here is the problem using the wrong detergent:  If you use the amount of powder for a top loader, too many suds are produced and it may even leak.  Reduce the powder to avoid the suds, and you are not getting optimum cleaning.  I have used too much powder and it did leak out the door.  I'd go for HE detergent.
