Question:

Using "g*y" as an insult?

In several classes in my school I've heard people use "g*y" as an insult. ei "that's so g*y"

I find this offending and believe it's a form of discrimination.

Do you think that I'm justified in this and also if I'd be justified asking them to stop etc.

also the same question but with calling people "fagots"

  1. Yes people use it as a mock more than an insult. Just as people tease the Black, the marginalised and all that.

But one cant change for the world. If you believe in yourself, you will have teh same world saluting you.

  2. I just feel sorry that people who use the word in that context dont have larger vocabularies

  3. you're certainly welcome to ask that they stop.  but most of them dont mean it as offensive to g**s anymore, but more of an insult in general.  sadly, it's just prominently stuck in most people's vocabularies.  i'm a guy who likes guys and still use those words as insults.

  4. It gets on my nerves, because the people who use it dont understand what there saying.

  5. I feel the same way when people say God damm*t etc. Just ask them to stop and respect your request. For some people, it take a very conscious effort to stop. Be patient.

  6. im not rl offended by that

  7. Don't beat yourself up over this issue...no one will ever 'change the (entire) world' completely...  So, what to do...  The best thing is to 'condition' yourself to 'perceive' that the person/people saying it are actually saying..."I'm SO stupid"...(which, in essence, is true)...  That doesn't mean you have to just 'sit there'...you can give the offender a look of disgust...that should register in their somewhat 'limited' intelligence...

  8. It's very juvenile when people say things such as that.  I occasionally hear adults saying, "That's so g*y."  I know they don't mean it literally as in "that's homosexual" but they could still use a more suitable word.  For now, I think I would ignore it.

  9. i think many people do it out of sheer ignorance, because it is what they hear other people say.  i try to point out, "hey would you know if someone nearby is g*y and would be offended by that".  another example is saying that something is retarded.  there is really no excuse for people using these words casually in conversation in a derogatory way.

everyone is justified in pointing it out to people who do it.  making them aware will help them stop.

  10. g*y is the new retarded. When I was in school, everything was retarded. I found the overuse of that word to be offensive and irritating even though I don't have any kind of mental handicap. It's fine to express disapproval in something but unfortunately not a lot of people consider if what they say is offensive. Obviously a group of 8th graders are going to laugh more if someone says "that's g*y" rather than something like "that's ridiculous" which doesn't carry the same offensive humor.

Even if you ask them to stop, it's not likely you'll get any results. If you find it impossible to ignore it, you could express your concern to a principal, teacher or another authority figure. I'm not sure how seriously you would be taken because it depends a lot on what is considered to be offensive language.

I hate to say that people are ignorant and insensitive and we have to learn to cope with these people in life because it sounds like a cop-out... but it's true. We can't always change how people think and talk no matter how hard we may try.

  11. i think people at your school should pay attention in English class a bit more and expand their vocabulary.  when someone says something is "g*y", it usually makes me think their education is shallow.

and it is a form of "soft" discrimination that is still culturally acceptable, unfortunately.

if you really want to throw it back at them, next time say '"wow, you seem to know a lot about what 'g*y' is. are you g*y?"

  12. dont worry about that..They are gross people

  13. I find myself saying it sometimes, but never negatively. I am g*y and so are my friends, they just laugh at me.

For example, my friend who is g*y showed me a piece of clothing, I looked at him and said "that's so g*y". It was something he wouldn't normally wear. I don't think we were bashing ourselves.

  14. im not offended im much more offended by the "other" f word

  15. Fagot is the insult, not g*y.  The homosexual community came up with the term g*y.  Also unacceptable to my g*y friends are the following: Rump Ranger, F**********r, p**p Chute Poker, and Wanna be He.

    --------------------------------------...

  16. I'm not really offended by "g*y", but I don't like to hear "f*g*.

  17. It pisses me off.
