  1. The only extra charge is the exchange rate to change to the funds of the country you are in.  I have found that it is much cheaper to use your visa card when out of the country than to use a debit card, for example.  With the visa card there are no extra bank charges.

  2. You will pay a foreign exchange rate on any charge card or bank card used outside Canada.  I wasnt charged anything extra for using it in China or other countries other than that.

However some countries dont use charge/credit cards at all !! Not many places in China did the last time I was there, a year ago.

So before travelling find out if they do -- you can use your TD bank card in most banks around the world even though they dont advertise themselves as an international bank card.

Check the symbols on the back of your cards to see if they can be used overseas - I have TD and have used my bank card in China and other countries, even in banks that people with CIBC cards, which claim to be international, couldnt use.
