http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 has played down the expectations that he would play his first Test for Australia at Gabba in the first Ashes Test starting 25 November.
Khawaja, who was named in the 17-member Australian squad for the Ashes on Monday, considers it a big honour to be named in the squad.
He said that playing Test match cricket for Australia would be the best thing in the world, although he thought that he didn’t expect of playing in the first Test of the Ashes series. Khawaja said that realistically he didn’t think that team will change
much for the first Test match.
He said the team for the first Test at Gabba would remain fairly similar to the one that was in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 for the last test. He said that whichever team he plays for, he tries to score runs and make sure that he is doing well for the team.
Generally sides consider and put their faith on tried and tested players and normally don’t experiment with their sides before a big series. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 have been playing the same Test team for number of series and found a number of players playing quite consistently
for them.
Khawaja has played 23 first class matches and became the first Muslim to be picked in the Test squad, when he was picked for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823. He made
3 centuries in Sheffield Shield competition in 2009-10 and made 698 runs in the competition. In his 23 first class matches he has made 1,796 runs with an average of 52.82. He has also scored 6 hundreds and 7 fifties.
