Usps return to sender?

i just received a letter back from the usps with a notification reading "forward time exp." Can anyone tell me exactly what that means?

  1. you must have moved about a year ago and filed a change of address... it is only good for a year.... by now they expect you to have notified every one of your new address... so they will not forward and mail addressed to your old address on to your new address


  2. The person you mailed it to moved longer than six months ago.  

    When someone moves they fill out a form that allows the postal service to forward their mail to the new address.   This "forwarding order" expires after six months.

    So the letter you tried to mail was "returned to sender" (you) because the forwarding order of the recipient had expired.

  3. Whoever you sent it to moved, and filed a Change of Address Order more than 18 months ago. Mail was forwarded for a period of 12 months to give the addressee time to notify people of their new address. After 12 months, any mail still addressed to the old address is returned with the new address information attached.

    After 18 months have elapsed, a person gets what you got. A simple notice that all of the time for forwarding has expired.
