true or false:

1) Cardiac muscle cells have a branched shape. Other types of muscle cells do not.

(I THINK it's false because aren't smooth muscle cells also branched?)

2) There is a constant flow of blood through the capillaries even though the heart is forcing blood out into the arterial system only part of the time.

  1. 1. True

Smooth muscle cells are NOT branched.  You can review the differences and similarities between the 3 muscle types here:

    2. True

The elastic recoil of the arterial system, the forward momentum of blood (provided by the heart during systole) and to some extent, the one-way aortic valve all help blood to keep flowing forward in the capillaries during diastole (when the heart is not pushing blood).

  2. Not sure about number 2, but number 1 is true, because they are generally Y-shaped whereas smooth muscle cells are not.
