Utah Jazz's Kevin Murphy trying to get accustomed in NBA
For Kevin Murphy, Utah Jazz newly acquired rookie, the world of NBA has turned out be ‘slow’. He shared his thoughts after scoring 8 points in Utah’s 84-80 victory over Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday.
“Everything was faster in college,” said Murphy. “It was quick, everything was quick. I’m learning how to slow down, survey what’s going on and see what everyone’s doing.”
The former Tennessee Tech University guard was selected by Jazz during the 2nd round of draft, Murphy during his 4 year tenure with Tennessee tallied 2,019, but fall short from becoming a first round pick. Jazz used
their 47th pick to rope him in.
In his debut game on Monday, the 22-year-old guard had his moment at the death of the game. He netted a jumper that allowed Jazz to pull away with a 2 point margin.
One of the dilemma associated with second round picks is that they always a domiciles sword hanging above them, and if they don’t perform exceptionally well, than they have to find a niche within side D-league or international
basketball. The same cannot be said about the 1st round picks, as they become an instant sensation after draft.
However, Utah’s head coach Tyrone Corbin was impressed with Kevin efforts in the first game.
“It’s a new system and a new pace for him,” Corbin said. “He’s trying to find his niche and he’s starting to do a good realizing what he needs to do”.
Nevertheless for Murphy it is just the start of his journey, not to forget that being a second round pick he had to go through a lot of ordeal before the draft. There were workouts and rejections, than some more interviews and
uncertainty.
As for now, Murphy is overwhelmed with joy after being drafted by Jazz.
"I was so excited, more excited than I've ever been," he said. "It was probably one of the happiest days of my life; I enjoyed the moment so much”.
But once the festivities are over, he will confront his biggest challenge, to carve out a permanent place in Jazz roster.
Jazz have recently added further depth to their offense after acquiring Mo Williams, with Devin Harris already in the loop Murphy will be able to learn a lot in the coming days.
