Utah Jazz forward Derrick Favors finally showing his true promise – NBA Update
Twelve months ago when, Derrick Favors came to the Utah Jazz as part of the trade for the All Star point guard Deron Williams, his future with the Jazz franchise had a big question mark on it. But now, after an excellent season
with the team in which he posted 8.8 points and 6.5 rebounds, and an above average display of 11.8 points and 9.5 rebounds in the playoffs, the future looks bright for the third year man.
Favors was drafted as the third overall pick back in 2010 by the New Jersey Nets. He failed to make much of an impression in his rookie season and was traded to the Jazz along with Devin Harris.
In the last two games played in the Salt Lake City, both of which the Jazz lost, Favors put up a valiant fight and notched up back to back double-doubles scoring 31 points in the two games and collecting 21 rebounds along the way.
The player himself was in high spirits even after getting swept in the first round and had his eyes set on working hard in the off season, getting ready for next year.
"I'm starting to feel like I'm in the NBA now," – Favors after the Game 4 loss.
He was also very satisfied with his role in the team and called playing with this team, a perfect combination of skill and experience.
"I don't make decisions, but I think we're perfect," Favors said. "We're going to work hard next year, improve, and try to get out of the first round."
However if Favors is to be a successful player in the NBA, he will be required to come out even more ready, more polished especially his post moves. He will need to improve his shooting touch as well and also work hard on his free
throw conversion.
The opportunity is there for him to become a starter with a team and Head Coach Tyrone Corbin has stated that Favors is a deserving contender to be a starter next year. Corbin also gave the young man a start in the eventual final
playoff game for the Jazz.
Team mates like Al Jefferson have also nothing but praise for the young guy;
"I just hope I'm his teammate. ... He's only getting better and better," Jefferson said. "And when he learn how to really get some great post moves and use his athleticism instead of running over people ... it's going to be trouble,
man."
