Utah Jazz make changes in their coaching staff ahead of next season – NBA News
Utah Jazz announced on Thursday the promotion of Michael Sanders to the position of assistant coach, adding him to the staff of head coach Tyrone Corbin. Sanders spent the past season as the assistant coach/player development for
the franchise.
In addition to that, Jazz also announced that they have signed former scout Brad Jones to the post of assistant coach/ player development.
“Moving Mike from player development to the bench is a promotion that he has earned. His strong work ethic and skillset, coupled with his experience as a former player and coach in the NBA and D-League, has proven to be valuable
to our franchise and I look forward to working with him closer in his enhanced role. Brad is a well-respected and recognized young coaching talent with a proven track-record of player development. We are very happy to be bringing him back to the Jazz family,”
said Jazz Head Coach Corbin.
Sanders is a veteran in the coaching fraternity, and has previously held coaching assignments with the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and Charlotte Bobcats. He has also spent time coaching in the NBA D-league. He was drafted
in the fourth round of the 1982 NBA Draft by the Kansas City Kings and went on to play 11 seasons in the league.
He got his first NBA coaching gig when he was assigned as an assistant coach to the Pistons in the 2000-2001 NBA season. He then joined the Asheville Altitude of the D-league, where he spent the next four seasons and guided the
team to the D-league championship in 2004 and 2005. Sanders later joined the Bucks in 2005 for two seasons, followed by a one year stint with the Bobcats in the 2007-08 NBA season.
Brad Jones returns to the Utah Jazz after spending the last two seasons with the San Antonio Spurs owned D-League side Austin Toros. He led the Toros to a championship this past season, defeating the L.A D-Fenders in the Finals.
Prior to that, Jones was the head coach of the D-league team, the Utah Flash, for three seasons. He has been associated with the Jazz before, and was their regional scout from 2001 to 2007.
