Utah Jazz own the third quarter to humble Dallas Mavericks 113-94: NBA Recap
A night after defeating the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center, the Dallas Mavericks were brought down to earth by a balanced Utah Jazz side, which used a mega third quarter to blow away the Mavs 113-94.
Mo Williams and Marvin Williams each scored 21 points to head Utah’s charge. Mo also had six assists for the Jazz, who had four more players in double scoring figures. Paul Millsap has a fantastic night with 15 boards and 13 points
while Al Jefferson also had a double-double with 14 rebounds and 12 points. Randy Foye provided the spark off the bench with 13 points in nearly 22 minutes while Derrick Favors also added 10 to the total 61 Jazz rebounds.
Jazz were huge on the glass. They out-rebounded Dallas by 21 on the boards, by 12 on the offensive end alone, and also scored more points in the paint, 44 as compared to Mavs’ 30. Dallas were led by 17 points and 7 assists by Darren
Collison, Brandan Wright added 15 while Vince Carter and O.J. Mayo chipped in with 12 apiece.
Mavericks started from where they had left off last night. They opened up with a 9-4 run and after some dogged resistance by Jazz, managed to take a single point lead into the second quarter, 26-25.
The first three minutes of the second period witnessed some end-to-end action and with 8:56 remaining the scores were tied at 35. That was where Jazz pulled the trigger with an 11-3 run. The Mavericks rebounded immediately, but
going into the last one and a half minute of the first half, Utah managed to hold on to a 55-54 lead.
What followed though was a barrage of three pointers from Mavericks, which pushed them to a 63-55 halftime lead. Rookie Jae Crowder sank two of the 3 triples in that run while Mayo knocked one.
That was the last time, Mavericks managed to match the Jazz.
The third quarter spelled doom for the visitors as Utah started off with a 6-0 run, followed with another one two Mavericks shots later, and then with the scores at 74 apiece, deep, they launched a game changing 18-2 spurt to ice
the game.
The shell shocked Mavericks never threatened after that as Jazz cruised to a 19 point romp.
