Utah Jazz step into next NBA season after a summer of change
In the last few years, Utah Jazz has not made major changes to their ranks but the summer of 2012 will possibly go down as one of the busiest in the Salt Lake City franchises’ history. This off-season was marked with a lot of changes
for Jazz and these variations were not just restricted to the roster but also revolved around the front office and the coaching staff.
One of the major changes involved the re-arrival of wingman Mo Williams who played for the Los Angeles Clippers last season. Marvin Williams, Randy Foye were also added during the off-season. Apart from the new additions, the Jazz
also brought back Jeremy Evans and also gave a chance to Kevin Murphy, Jamaal Tinsley, and DeMarre Carroll.
With so many changes made to give the roster a new direction head coach Tyrone Corbin has high expectations for the coming season and cannot wait to get going.
"I’m excited to get going," Corbin said recently, "because we have so many new guys."
With a lot of new faces coming in, the question of quality playing time for all the players will arise, but to Corbin having many different options at each position will only be better for the team as this creates more competition
among the players, and consequently more effort;
"We’ve had a great opportunity to visit individually with the guys," Corbin said. "We talked about what we expect from them. They have to compete every time they step on the floor. Nobody will be given anything."
These weren’t the only changes made by the franchise. The summer of 2012 saw the departure of Scott Layden thus bringing an end to a 25 year association. Layden will now be an assistant coach at the San Antonio Spurs. His departure
gave way to the hiring of two talented assistants on Corbin’s team in the form of Brad Jones and Mike Sanders.
Another major change was in the Jazz front office as Kevin O’Connor stepped down from the general manager position to give way to Dennis Lindsey in August.
Utah have certainly made a lot of alterations to their setup, in every possible domain. Their hope now will be to start a new journey on a successful note.
