  1. Your uterus could be measuring large because your baby had a bit of a growth spurt or because you've finally started to put on weight.  Don't worry about it.  The two ultrasounds are only giving a difference of 5 days in the due date.  If your fundus continues to measure at a different week, your doctor will take that into consideration and may decide your due date needs changing.  Or not.  He's the professional, so trust his judgment.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I was so sick that I lost 15 pounds in about 3 months.  My doctor was going to put me in the hospital and do the whole feeding tube nastiness.  Fortunately, I slowly started to gain, and for about a month, had slow weight gain and a fundus that measured right to my due date.  And then came the visit where the doctor said, "That can't be right.  Your uterus shouldn't be this large yet.  Come back next week and let me measure."  (I had just gotten to the 2-week appointment stage, so going back in 1 week was significant.)

The next week, he said, "Your baby grew twice as much in the last week as a normal baby grows at this stage.  Come back in 1 more week."

And the next week, he said, "Your baby is still growing at double the rate we expect, so I think we need to do an ultrasound and find out how many babies are in there."  This was before ultrasounds were routine, and they WEREN'T covered by insurance, and you had to drink an entire QUART of water.  I have never been quite so miserable in my life.

The ultrasound showed one baby.  For 2 more weeks she grew at twice the rate, and then her growth leveled back off.  She was born 13 days after her due date.  So there you go.  One mom, one fetus with a ramped up growth pattern for a while, and a perfectly normal birth and a perfectly normal and perfectly perfect baby.

  2. My uterus always measured bigger and I had big babies. When I say big, I mean huge! One was nearly 12 pounds at birth and I'm not a big girl! I don't know if there is a connection between bigger babies and the uterus measuring bigger, but I know it was the case for me.

  3. It could be your baby's position, due date, big baby, extra fluid, inaccurate measureing. The point is that it's not really accurate and just something to go by to make sure you are growing. I measured 2-3wks large, knew my date of conception, and my son was born at 38wks.

  4. I wont cut and paste another question I answered about the same thing, but here goes.

Fundal height also takes into account,  belly fat, fluid retained, baby and food consumed over the course of the day. You being 1cm out is not a big deal, I am 34 weeks and measure 38 weeks and my dates are correct, it has been confirmed by ultrasound (which are more correct than a belly measurement). I would only be concerned if your measurements are too small for dates, as it means that they baby isn't growing. Being too big could just mean you're hydrated properly or your baby is a little bit larger.

  5. The first trimester sono is the most accurate (before 12 weeks).  They use this expected due date (EDC) and compare it to the EDC from your last menstrual cycle (LMP).  If they are within 1 week of each other than the last menstrual EDC is used.  If they differ by >1 week they use the sono EDC.  So in your case the 9 week sono is most accurate.  I would need to know your LMP to be exact.  However, measuring 1 week off is normal. Baby'ss position can effect the measurement.  For example.....LMP of 12/27 gives you a EDC of 10/3.  By 1st trimester sono my due date was 9/28.  SO I go by my LMP sono and have a due date of 10/3.  There was less than 1 wk difference and the LMP is most accurate.  I have been measuring 1 week ahead for MANY weeks and 3 weeks ago I was 4 weeks ahead but the baby was lying funny.  The next appt I was back to 1 week ahead.  Just watch what you eat, don't gain more than the desired 20-40# (if you are skinnier you can gain 40#, avg or overweight 20#ish).  Don't worry and just talk to your OB.  That is why you see them....

  6. It is normal for the uterus to measure a little bigger. I am 30 weeks and was measuring 34 at my check up this week. But I know the dates are correct. If you were 26 weeks 23 would be measuring small.

  7. The earlier ultra-sounds are usually more accurate.  I measured big too and my doctor kept telling me that he thought the baby was going to be here earlier than originally planned, but the baby came exactly on my due date.  So really, it isn't an indicator unless it is significantly bigger and the dr says something.

    good luck

  8. I would say you are just having a big baby. If you are truly due in December than you would have gotten pregnant on the 5th of April. I would go by the earlier due date (the Dec 27), the earlier u/s are the most accurate in dating. Just my opinion.

  9. well first if you go to different places, they are going to all give you different days (but they are always close together) because they go by your last missed period and it varies. but usually the ultrasound should be more accurate then anything because they are specialized in measuring the baby. some women are often bigger then others. it varies form woman to women, so i would just go by what the doctors say. they know best. it only takes one time for you to get pregnant anyway. that's why they go by your period. you just might have a big baby. good luck

  10. 1.  A measurement of the fundus is not very accurate.

    2.  Different women are different.  For example, my wife carries a LOT of water, causing her to look and measure much bigger than most.

    Don't worry about it!
