Utility Costs in Sydney?? Parramatta??

Hi All!

What are your average costs for electricity and gas each week or month or quarter?

Hoping to move to Sydney (Parramatta??) soon and want an indication of the utility costs.

I guess it all depends on if you live in a unit, townhouse or house and how many people live with you.

Living by yourself, electricity will be around $200 per quarter but that extra person will add nearly $100 (just like the others said).  That's if you don't have gas, so your hot water will be electric.  Winter will probably be higher.

If you're renting, you won't have to pay anything else, water, etc, except for your telephone, obviously.

If you buy a unit or townhouse, around $100 per quarter for water should be expected.  My council rates are $183 per quarter in a townhouse.

My strata fees are $575 per quarter but you only pay them if you own.

Perhaps the Parramatta Council can tell you which Electricity and Gas companies are eco-friendly, ie  green electricity. That should help keep costs down.

Above person is spot on. I have 2 bed apt and we pay anywhere from $200 to $300 per quarter (more in winter)

Gas was only $120 a quarter years ago when I used it..

Water is around $99 per quarter

You also need to take into consideration council rates (ours are $240 per quarter) and strata fees (ours are ridiculous at $500 per quarter and they always charge a "special levy" for no reason.. alot of my friends say $500 is not bad but I think its a rip off, our building is barely maintained)

Note that all your quarterly bills seem to come at the SAME time! its annoying... lol

ok for an average 2bedroom apartment ..i used to pay 250- 300 every 3months for electricity (during winter) and around 200-250  in summer..all depends how much the heater or aircon is being used..gas im not so sure ..its not the utility u should worry bout its finding a good apartment in a safe area..
