Utility bills in Vic and NSW...average costs for a one bed flat?

Im in the planning stages of a relocation to Australia...have telephone interviews for jobs in Sydney and Melbourne next week...very excited!

We need to be organised so we dont get too many surprises! Have spent this morning looking into average costs of utility bills, gas, electricity, water etc. Most companies want me to fill in an online questionnaire so I can get an 'energy quote' As I live in England at the moment this is no good :)

I know its not the most exciting subject, but what are your average bills? Just a ball park figure would be good so we can plan our budget....

We plan to rent a one bedroom flat.

Thanks x

  1. it varies according to where you live and how much you use. Your water bills are paid by the owners so no problems there but remember even though the drought has broken we still have water restrictions, so go easy. Your phone bill will vary by the carrier and its costs around $150 just to get a connection. Gas thru AGL and electricty with either Energy Australia or Origin Energy. My last electicity bill was $182 for 3 months with Origin. Phone bills can be paid 1 or 3 monthly Rents will set you back anything from $175 per week for Outer Sydney Suburbs to $2500+ the closer you get to the coast, plus 6 weeks rent for bond.
