I'm going to be staying in Vleuten, 10 min by train away from Utrecht. Do I go into Utrecht for my evening meal or can I eat in Vleuten?

I'd like to know what the typical opening times for shops and cafes are in villages like Vleuten.

  1. I have only been to Vleuten once (my boss lived there and I picked him up there by car on route to a business trip.

Vleuten is a large village/small town, very residential based and appealing for commuter families on the outskirts of Utrecht

Looking at the yellow pages, there are only five restaurants (not specifically including bars/cafes though) http://www.goudengids.nl/search/vleuten/... so it does not have a large selection.   Opening times vary e.g. Juliana Oriëntaals Restaurant opens Tue-Sun 16:00 - 22:30 uur. Normally shops will close 17.30 (17.00 on Saturday and closed Sunday), although Friday is late night shopping (usually until 20.00 or 21.00)

Utrecht centre is only 7 mins away by train and it is wonderful place.  There you have a much wider variety of restaurents & shops along with opening hours.  Personally I would give Vleuten a miss and definately go to Utrecht.  It is a really nice city with lots more to do and see, and also I think a lot easier to get around (being non-Dutch) than Vleuten
