I have Uvesre 1.5mbs and when test the speed i get what i paid for as my results were close to 1500kps and up speed was 950kps about. but when i go play counter strike source with server with more than 6 people i can play with without being shot and learning that i was 10 seconds later.

the latency ingame goes from 26 to over 130.

i have a laptop with a built in wireless Intel adapter

why is this?

what are the possibilities for a more stable connection?

  1. if your using wireless connection you have to realize that latency on that portion is the decoding of the wireless data to data that the PC can translate. also depending on the speed of the other people playing they might have a larger bandwidth speed that can also provide them more of a microsecond more than your connection.

  2. First, UVerse uses interleaving to increase the reliability of your video streams.  This does give you a slight increase in latency (perhaps 20 milliseconds).    But that is only 2 hundredths of a second.  So you may hear that UVerse has latency problems, but we are talking about way less than the blink of an eye,  it does not sound like interleaving is your problem.

My first suggestion is to try connecting up with a hardwire either net cable.  If that solves your problem, you may have interference issues with your Wi-Fi.  Try changing wi-fi channels. (From a locally connected computer go to http://gateway.2wire.net/ to configure your UVerse gateway.)

If the hardwire cable doesn’t solve it, you can go look at your broadband statistics.  Point a computer locally connected to your gateway to http://gateway.2wire.net/mdc .  You will need the password printed on the sticker on the side of your gateway.   Look for errors under your broadband link statistics for errors.  If you find them I recommend going to http://utalk.att.com for user help.  Or call AT&T for help 800ATT2020.

If neither of these suggestions help… you may have a local hardware issue on your laptop.  Run a virus checker and a spyware remover.  Try to remove startup items that may hog your connection and/or processor.

    Good Luck!
