Question:

V.H.S tape.?

I recorded home videos from my camcorder which I would like to send to my sister in the States. As I live in Ireland, the system is different.

Would I have to get it converted her, or would it be better to send the tape to her and have it changed over there.

Thanks for your suggestions.

  1. Personally, I would keep the original tapes to archive the memories, who knows, you may need them sumday... have the videos converted to NTSC thru video editing in PC (@ home or by 3rd party) and burned to all regions-DVD.

  2. Not sure about Ireland but we have these in the US.

If you have an analog (VHS) camcorder…

You need an analog converter, either internal card or external such as the dazzle. It's very easy to use and come with good software. You would hook your analog VHS camera to the analog converter, the dazzle and then hook the dazzle to your PC. The dazzle cost around 70.00 , but worth the money if you have a lot of VHS to tapes to convert. Once your movie is on your PC, then you can burn it.

  3. Duel standard TVs and VCRs are much more common in the Ireland/UK/Europe than in the US. If you send it to her she almost certanly will have to have it converted.

This can be done here or in the US, but you might find it cheaper and easier to convert here before sending.

Alternativly, if you can find someone with a DVD recorder (and she has a player) copy it to DVD. There's much more chance of this playing on another systems player as most use a standard design, end even if it wont work on her TV, it should on a computer.

    should be fine

  5. Just send it to her. I'm sure here in the States it will be much easier to convert. There are systems that record from VHS to DVD.

  6. most tvs are pal/ntsc compatible. Depends on her vhs player some do play ntsc and pal tapes, otherwise yeps she wud have to get in converted.

  7. It would make more sense to copy the VHS recording onto DVD.

All DVD recorders record in "multi-region" (sometimes called "region free") format.

This would certainly playback on almost any DVD player (or PC), anywhere in the world.

If you don't have a DVD recorder, try asking around your friends and neighbours, since DVD recorders are now quite commonplace.

It may even pay to get it copied professionally, and it would be a better bet for posting.  A DVD can't get accidentally wiped by a magnetic field/X-RAYs etc. They're lighter, smaller and cheaper to post, and generally more robust for posting.
