Okay my doctor told me that they couldn't use, c**p the word just vanished from my head, pitocin that's it. Is there any other way that they could induce if need be??? My daughter is measuring 3 weeks more than what she is supposed to. Please let me know if they can help induce when the time comes or what I can do when the time is near to have a safe and hopefully successful VBAC. Thanks to all.

  1. There are supposedly a couple of different ways to induce labor. Walking a lot, eating spicy foods, doing the "deed". Everyone is different, but for me, I started walking about 30 minutes a night when i started feeling ready and I ate lots of lasagna. I know, that sounds wierd, but it worked for me. : )

Induction of labor frequently leads to further intervention in birth including the need for fetal monitoring, epidural anesthesia, instrumental delivery and cesarean section. Each of these interventions increases risks to babies and mothers.

First time mothers are especially vulnerable: Induction itself doubles a first-time mother’s risk of having a cesarean section.

A cesarean puts a woman’s entire reproductive life, including subsequent pregnancies, at higher risk.

For all women, induction of labor increases the use of forceps and vacuum extraction as well as rates of shoulder dystocia.

Women with a prior cesarean who are induced have a 33-75% risk of having another cesarean.

Induction of labor has been shown to increase the risk of uterine rupture for women with a prior cesarean scar.

Babies whose births are induced more often experience resuscitation, admission to the intensive care unit, and phototherapy to treat jaundice, which generally require separation from the mother.

The info above only applies to medical induction, natural means of getting things going are safe. It is also safe to go to 42 weeks and/or have a large baby with a vbac, it does not increase the chance of rupture and things like trying different birthing positions can help deliver a big baby. Labor will not and should not occur untill the mother and baby are ready, which is a time no doctor can pinpoint. If the time has come and labor does not start, natural means of induction have been shown to be very effective, I have provided a list of every natural way I know of.

1: fast walking (no slow poking)

2: good s*x (unprotected, sperm ripens the cervix and you have to o****m so you may have to do it yourself)

3: nipple stimulation (act like you are trying to express milk or use a pump, do it for a few hours, it releases the hormone that starts labor)

4: rasberry leaf tea ( you can get it at the pharmacy or health food stores)

5: pinnapple and other citrus fruits and drinks

6: spicy foods with cayane peppers

7: a glass of wine (wine coolers work too)

8: foot and ankle massage (especialy right below the ankle)

    9: relax, visulize labor

    10: go swimming

11: DO NOT allow a c-section for being overdue before 42 weeks because you are not technicaly overdue till then. The scar and uterus dont start to weaken till after 42 weeks. Non stress tests and ultrasounds can be preformed after 40 weeks to ensure the health of the baby and prevent unnessary surgery.

Unless you have a rare condition like gestational diabetes your body will not make a baby that is too big for you to deliver. Didn't you hear about the 17 pound newborn delivered last year? Mother was normal size, delivered vaginaly and didn't even tear. Women have been delivering babies for thousands of years and our bodies know what they are doing. The reason doctors are wary of big babies is because of disocia, however, this is preventable. Distocia is when a baby gets stuck in the birth canal, and is more likely to occur with big babies. If you want to avoid distocia and another c-section simply let nature take its course. Try for a natural birth, it will hurt but recovering from a c-section with two or more kids is way worse. The reason for a natural birth is to allow your body to deliver the baby the way it is meant to, instead of leaving it to luck. An epidural and other pain meds numbs the muscles down there so they cant do their job. Normally, the uterus pushes and the vaginal muscles pull and guide the baby in the safest and most efficient way out. With pain meds, your vaginal muscles just sit there and get in the way, making vaginal birth very difficult and leading to a dramatically increased risk of distocia. Dont worry about the size, just do what your body tells you to do and you will be succesfull. Ultrasound weight estimates are notoriously incorrect, at 36 weeks my baby was supposed to be 7 pounds. He was born at 40 weeks weighing 5 pounds 13 ounces.

  3. Pitocin is generally acceptable for VBAC induction if the induction is necessary and the cervix is "ripe".

What they shouldn't use is Cytotec or other prostaglandins to ripen the cervix; and they especially shouldn't use pitocin and prostaglandins together.
