I have a Orion vcr that is about four years old and comes with a small remote controller. Recently the power, pause, and call buttons on the remote controller don't work. How can I fix this problem?

  1. Alas not much of an answer (ref my question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

This  may help you out in the short term if your remote has got the rubbery type buttons. It means you will probably have to get out the s***w drivers and disassemble the remote. Once disassembled I usually just wash the rubbery pad in warm soapy water then dry thoroughly and give the side of the circuit board where the rubbery bumps contact a gentle but good  wipe with a paper tissue or cloth. Then reassemble and things should work again.  I'm not a technician or anything so no guarantees but its got a few of the problem buttons on my remotes working again (for a while at least).

  2. A better choice to clean the pad and the electronics underneath is denatured (ethyl) alcohol, available at most drug stores.  It is much more effective at removing the residue and will not damage the remote like water can.  Moisten Q-Tips with it to apply and scrub off the residue.

Denatured alcohol is often used in electronics shops for cleaning purposes.
