VDK GENT Dames defeats Impel Gwardia WROCLAW in semi-finals – 2012 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup
The VDK GENT Dames of Belgium had a match with their Polish counter parts of Impel Gwardia WROCLAW.
The competition was hosted in the Polish city of Wroclaw where the two girls club teams played in the first match of the semi-finals of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup.
The two rivals put a good show that extended the match to five sets but at the end of the day the Impel team could not secure a win despite the fact that they had the advantage of playing in their home ground. Therefore, the final set scores stood as follows
in favour of the guests: 25-18, 18-25, 21-25, 25-21 and 15-12.
The coach of the Impel squad, Rafal Blaszczyk, shared his views in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the closing of the match, “It was a very interesting and intense match. Both sides fought tremendously for the win and
in the end we lacked some luck, but we will go to Belgium next week to take our revenge and make it to the semi finals.”
On the other hand, an Impel player, Dominika Sobolska, expressed herself in the following manner, “After a poor start we gradually got used to the fast play of our opponent. It is a pity that we lost the fourth set because we could have sealed the deal there.
We could have brought it home also at the tie-break with a bit more of luck but we are already eyeing our revenge next week in Gent.”
The first set of the match saw the guests take the lead at 8-7 and extend their advantage to 16-12. The home team could not do much to turn things in their favour and ended up losing the opening set of the game at 25-18. The second set start with promise
for the Impel as they got the lead at 10-5. Despite the fact that VDK was able to close in the gap at 17-16, they could not secure the frame which was bagged by the home team at 25-18.
The third set saw the home side dominate again but the guests were able to take the match to a fifth set by winning the fourth. After a tough final set, the guests bagged it at 15-12.
