  1. I shop at Whole Foods and it can be expensive but if you are buying things you have to make yourself, it's probably cheaper than buying meats.  If you are buying pre-made organic/vegan it's probably more expensive than buying meats!

I spend about $120 a week for 1 adult and 1 child but I buy some packaged foods too which make my bill a little higher.

  2. This question can't be answered, because I don't know what your eating habits are. I'll list things that tend to be expensive.

    - Fake Meats - Boca, Morning Star, etc.

    - Vegan: Ice cream, vegan cheese, etc.

    - Anything labeled organic.

    - Anything labeled natural.

    - Canned instead of fresh: beens peas veggies and fruit.

    - Local produce is always cheaper then stuff that is shipped in.

    - Fruit and veggies that are in season are always cheaper.

  3. Vegetable are cheaper in spanish/mexican markets, they need to be washed well before consumption, My wife washes them before putting it in the refrigerator and once again before use, Frozen vegetable should be thawed only once. Yes, it may be cheaper than meats.

But vegetables should be bought in season. same as fruits.Fruits need to be eaten when they are soft and smell wonderful.

  4. I'm not a vegan, but I am a vegetarian, since becoming vegetarian, my grocery bill is probably about $20 less than it used to be when I was buying meat products

  5. Like some of the others said, it really depends on your eating habits.  I use the local farmer's market for a lot of veggies.  I'm also involved in a cooperative farm--I get free veggies as a trade for working on the farm a certain shift per month.  How active are you kids in wanting to delve into the vegan lifestyle?  If they're all for it, then I'd suggest doing something like this.  It gives a really hands-on bit of knowledge into self-sustaining food sources and the hard work it takes to put that food on the table.  I could imagine that if you decide to trade a lower price for a little more work, you could spend about a hundred bucks on food per week.  Look into your local cooperative options.  See if there's a vegan group in your area--helps to have a community.

  6. I spend about $10-20 a week. I buy my breakfast and lunch at work. Also, I live alone.
