VEGETARIAN BBQ?!?!?!?

I'm having a BBQ, and a friend of mine, doesn't eat meat.

What are some things I could throw on the bbq. Other than veggie burgers, and hot dogs.

  1. My mom makes portabella mushroom burgers. You just take a mushroom and marinade it in what ever marinade for 30mins and grill it on the grill like any other burger. You can also use tempeh.

  2. I agree with the veggie skewers.  You could use small tomatoes, mushrooms, pineapple, chunks of onion, peppers, and pretty much any other type of vegetables.  Just make sure you soak the skewers overnight before you use them...or else they will burn!

Also corn on the cob is just great on the grill.  Make sure you make a lot though.  Vegetarians and omnivores mostly all love corn on the cob!

I can eat 5-6 ears of grilled corn by myself!  You can offer butter and salt to put on the corn...if your veg friend doesn't do butter they can just use salt.  To grill corn on the cob, just soak the ears (still in their husk) in water for a few hours...You can weight them down so they don't float on top of the water.  Then throw them on the grill...or you could husk the corn and put it in foil.  Then grill it.  Yum!!!

You could also get some large mushrooms at the grocery store and grill the mushroom caps.  Just be sure to keep them separate from the meat.  When they are finished you serve them just like burgers...on buns with any topping they would like.  Get some extras because non-vegetarians might enjoy them as well.

Wrap a few potatoes in foil and grill them.

The options are endless.  It's just really nice that you care enough about this person to take the time to come on here just to ask what they might like.  You must be a good friend.  There are people out there that are really rude and cruel to vegetarians.  Vegetarianism is not always an easy path.  It's people like you that rock!  I wish you the best of luck and I am sure they will appreciate any special thought you take for them.  They are lucky to have you as a friend.

And for dessert a fresh fruit salad!

  4. As a vegetarian, first I would like to congratulate you for being considerate enough to think of your friend.  It wouldn't even cross most people's minds to offer something special for your friend.  I know this is kind of a hot dog, but Boca makes a soy brat, very good.  And garden burger makes a BBQ Riblet.  I don't think you could really put it on the grill (may fall apart), but maybe on the broiler? Or you could make a skewer with veggies and riblets.  Good luck!
