  1. Are you breastfeeding?  If not, you may be starting your period.  Mine came about 6 weeks after birth, and it was HORRIBLE.  Insanely heavy.  It also lasted for about 2 weeks.  Then my body went back to normal.

If youre very worried, call your OB nurse.

  2. Medical guidelines say that women will bleed between two and six weeks after the birth of their baby. It seems, from speaking to many women, that the amount of REST that they get after the birth of a baby will determine how long they bleed for. Personal experience changes from individual to individual. Some women experience very heavy bleeding for over two weeks while others have no discharge at all after two weeks. I bled alot ( sounds similar to your experience) with my first baby - but hardly at all with my second.  I even know one friend who bled over the course of months.

If you are breastfeeding you need to take extra care of yourself. Any new mother needs good nutrition, vitamin and mineral supplements (preferably recommended/prescribed by a naturopath), lots of water and REST (this doesn't necessarily mean sleep - but taking it easy). It is unlikely to be your menstrual cycles returning after birth especailly if you are breastfeeding - though it is not unheard of.  If you are taking a birht control pill, that may have something to do with hormonal changes and the blood as your 'first' period.( unlikley in my mind  though)

It is best to avoid s*x while you are still bleeding to limit exposure to infections and if you are concerned that you are not getting back to, few couples are sexually active like they were before birth, this early after birth.

If you continue to be concerned contact your health professional - especailly since you have had an infection before. its best to be safe than sorry.

  3. No It is not normal especially since you had an infection of your womb.

    .

    Please call your doctor.

  4. i had the same exact thing happen to me, infection, baby boy, brown discharge and all...i am breastfeeding also, but i was really bad, like i thought i needed to go back to the hospital again bad and when i did it turned out i was having my first period after birth, and it lasted for 2 weeks...sucked sooooooo bad, but now its been 3 months and im good....if u have any fever or anything, go to the er...but just keep drinking lots of water..it will go back to normal
