i bought a Belkin wireless g router to send wireless internet to my laptop i set up a password for it so that my neighbors can use my internet....

the first time that my laptop detected the wireless internet it asked for the password so that i could connect....then one day i thought of disconnecting from the network and connect again to see if it would ask for the password again but it didn't. so my question is since my laptop was connected to the network before it doesn't require the password anymore or should it require the password anyway????Help please

Sorry for the long sentence but i really need help

  1. If you set up a encrypted passkey your computer will save the passkey for you then encrypt it. So you are in good shape.

Next, did you know that letting your neighbors use your internet its slowing your connection down by using up all of the bandwidth. I know you are being nice to your neighbors. I just thought you would like to know this.

  2. Once you have entered the encryption key it creates a profile on the machine. This keeps the key active. Saves a lot of messing about when connecting. If you are saying that you are offering service to neighbours, be very careful. Your ISP would consider this theft of service as they are not in the same household as the subscribed connection. ISPs HAVE prosecuted for this and none has yet lost a case.

  3. no it dose not need a password after the first time, as it remembers it as one of your favorite connections.

  4. Your laptop has remembered the password so does not need the password to be entered again.

  5. You have the option to turn that feature on or off.  Right after you connect to your network the first time it said, would you like to save your pass phrase and auto connect to this network.  You left that option clicked.  If you ever wanted to test your security. You would have to remove your network from your preferred network list. If you have any more questions or need help with anything else check out http://www.nicklockard.com for more help
