SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY: I'm 17 and usually use the pull out method. I was due for my period the 26th of may, which was the same day i got my first depo shot. you're supposed to wait 7-9 days i guess for it to fully work, but we only waited 6. i DID get my period two days after the shot, but it was really long and irregular(which is very unlike me). today is June 5th, and my periods gone, but my b***s have gotten HUGE, and they're very tender. I usually barely fill my bras, but now i'm muffin topping them. is it possible for me to be pregnant?? i know there's no chance of pregnancy BEFORE i got the shot, because i took Plan B afterwards. PLEASE, i would appreciate any insightful information...am i pregnant or paranoid?

  1. when i got my first depo shot, the nurse has told me it was immediate since it when into my bloodstream. of course i had s*x right away and at first was paranoid but i was not pregnant.

    no i didnt pull out or use condoms.

    i did have complications with the depo. i spotted for almost a year.  talk about birth control.  if i could go back i wouldnt do it because of that.  but no other complications. i really like not having a period at all but it just took time.

  2. I'm going with paranoid.  I would pay the co-pay and get the pregnancy check if you're not sleeping or stuff like that, but I think you're fine.

  3. The depo shot is typically 99.5% effective.  Even Plan B is not always successful at terminating an unwanted pregnancy, however, it is highly unlikely that your health care provider would have started you on the shot if you were pregnant.  The difference between oral contraceptives and the depo shot, is that O.C.s give you small doses of hormone each day, whereas with Depo-Provera, you get a large amount of hormone in one shot (progestin), so the side effects are much more pronounced.  70% of women who receive the shot no longer get periods, however, the other 30% have periods that may be regular, or different than they are accustomed to (i.e., heavier or lighter, shorter or longer).  Other side effects of the shot include:

        * Increase in spotting and breakthrough bleeding

        * Weight gain

        * Dizziness

        * Nervousness

        * Change in libido

        * Headaches

        * Rash or skin discoloration

        * Breast tenderness

        * Depression

        * Increase or decrease in facial and body hair

        * Hair loss

    This being said, there is always a chance you could be pregnant, and the only way to find out is by taking a pregnancy test.

    ***Just a note on the pull out method: I learned in one of my graduate courses last semester that the pull out method is not only practically ineffective, but studies are now showing that because the guy has to focus so much on timing his ejaculation, later in life he is more likely to experience an erectile disorder.  I found that interesting...

  4. Evie just so you know the pull out method is not always a good method the guy could not pull out in time or there could be some pre-ejaculation. Always use a condom no matter what. And if you don't want to get pregnant then don't have s*x til marriage.

    And you might be pregnant but wait two weeks to take a test that's usually when you can tell if your pregnant or not. But sometimes a girls breast will baloon up and get very tender around that time of the month.

  5. Depo is evil. I had about 3 shots before I said the h**l with it, the complications just weren't worth it. I had swollen b*****s, extreme backaches, gained about 5lbs every time I had the d**n thing....Depo is not very nice to some of us and you may be sensitive to it like I was. It is still possible because even with birth control the pullout method is obviously not a reliable method, but it sounds more like the Depo is messing up your system. The longer you stay on it the more messed up you could get; try asking your doc for something a little less harsh.

  6. CONDOMS USUALLY WORK
