I live on a 2nd floor of a three floor apt in Rhode Island. Two days ago I was outside and on the door frame I seen all these small tiny little bugs, They are so small you can't even really tell what they look like or what color they are. I only know that they are dark. Now I am seeing them climbing up the stairs and I see them on my window sills..

When I went to kill one, it hops away. They are very fast little hoppers. I really don't know what fleas look like and that is the only bug I know of that hops like this so I am not sure what this could be. But these dont seem to fly and I dont have any pets and none of the other families in my house have pets so I don't think it could be fleas.. Anyone have any thoughts? Please help!

  1. Here are some thoughts:

    * Fleas

    * Ticks

    * Spider Mites

    * Springtails

    Hope I helped, and good luck with everything! (:

  2. I think John got it for you.

    There are several varieties including one that is almost round in body.

    But yeah, tiny and dark and hop real good.

    We used to call them snow fleas, because in winter they gather in your footprints. (yes, in the snow.)

    They are interesting and very primitive bugs, they don't bite or anything.

    They seem to live on algae and mold

  3. Its springtails, I'd bet on it. Check reference.

  4. grasshopper

  5. It is one of two things:

    If there are plants in the room and they are shiny black:  flea beetles.

    If there are no plants in the room and there have been pets in the place:  fleas.

    Otherwise:  definitely a springtail.
