The German Bundesliga showed another change after VFL (Verein für Leibesübungen) Wolfsburg sacked manager, Steve McClaren.
Dieter Hoeness, Wolfsburg director, has affirmed the reckless move made by the relegation struck German club.
The news was shared with the public on Monday 07 Feb, 2011, via the club’s official website
vfl-wolfsburg.de with immediate effect.
Wolfsburg had a woeful run in the current spell of the German league, snatching only 23 points in 21 clashes so far in 2010-2011 season.
The side is just on the brink of losing their balance to the low performing teams of the season. Wolfsburg had been among the bottom teams over the past few years, then the club appointed Felix Magath, who led the team to the Bundesliga title in 2009.
This came from no-where because Die Wolf is not considered among the top flight German clubs. Magath got a lot of sponsorships from the top corporate Volkswagen and produced strikers like Edin Dzeko, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Josue-c19586.
McClaren couldn’t continue the same winning streak of Magath as Wolfsburg has developed itself as a club for not developing talent but for buying players. It was a group of players other than a team with star players such as Diego and Simon Kjaer.
The 49-year old English manager, McClaren, landed at Volkswagen arena after he left http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233. He enjoyed a wonderful episode with Twente thereby winning Eredivisie Championship in 2009-10 season.
Previously he had managed many English Premier League clubs, such as Middlesborough, and his team triumphed with a League cup in 2004 and a UEFA Cup runners-up spot in 2006.
He also managed Manchester United as an Assistant Manager, with Sir Alex Ferguson, when Old Trafford won the Treble in 1999.
He was appointed the Manager of the English National football team after the departure of Sven-Goran Eriksson after FIFA WC 2006 and was pointed to the exit door when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 failed to qualify for the UEFA European Football Championship.
Dieter Hoeness stated that McClaren had failed to develop a stable collaboration with the club during the season. He said, “Following the recent negative results and still under the impression of our poor first half of the season, we cannot underestimate
our situation in the standings. Being only one point clear of the relegation zone, we are alarmed. We must distance ourselves from the relegation places as soon as possible”.
Wolfsburg’s Chairman of supervisory board, Francisco Javier Garcia, added, “We did not see any other alternative".
Reportedly McClaren’s assistant coach at Wolfsburg, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pierre-c29989 Littbarski, has taken charge of the squad.
