VGA Resolution

Question

ok so currently i have my monitor limping along with the USB trick till i can get around to replace the caps. my current issue is I only can use the VGA at a max of 800x600 and its killing my eyes. when im tearing into this beast should i be looking for anything to replace to get the 1024x768 I was expecting to get when i turned it on again. also my source button doesn't seem to do anything now that that i can remember if it would switch sources without somthing ellse being plugged in before. just wondering if maybe the motherboard is fried now too.
