Question:

VGA to HDMI problems, why isn't it working?

I bought this thing that converts VGA output to HDMI input so that I can view my laptop display on my TV. I connected it all up but it only seems to want to display the initial windows startup up stuff (the windows loading bar and hardware info screen) whenever it gets to the advanced graphics (windows login onwards) the TV reports no signal and blacks out, any suggestions? I am aware of Fn+f8

Ive tried changing resolutions

Ive tried safemode

Ive tried different colour settings

Played around with TV settings

Checked connections

Tried a different computer (a desktop), the same problem occurs

Tried both vista and xp

At the moment, im thinking its a problem with:

1. My TV

or

2. My HDMI cable

The whole setup goes from the VGA from my laptop, through a VGA cable, into the converter which then connects to a HDMI cable which runs to my TV.

Any suggestions would be great,

Cheers

  1. I think it may well be a conflict with your video card is it nvidia? lots of conflicts with this set up.

Have you tried switching back to a direct VGA - DVI feed?

here is a clip from a blog with same problem

"I had similar problems (mine worked with a second monitor, but I didn't switch it to the left) and partially alleviated them by turning off graphics hardware acceleration altogether. This got rid of the black screen freeze, but after several days the open windows expanded, open and shut, contracted, for about several minutes. I eventually closed all the windows down, and the problem disappeared. I've also noticed it doesn't like Firefox or the Google desktop. I'm running XP Pro on mine."

  2. you havent played enough

you need to set it back to vga, then configure up
