  1. Depending on the cost  you may want to look at a new radio

Cobra, Uniden, Midland and all have handhelds for around $50.00

    Marine Radio Store

Has the battery for $47.94 plus shipping

Radio Shack, Circuit city,Best Buy and many other places sell universal chargers with interchangeable and reversable tips

  2. Hi Debbe!

The Humminbird VHF5 is a discontinued model, but you might be able to get the parts you need here:

(EDIT) Here's the owner's manual for your radio.

The batteries are AA's (eight of 'em) and you can use NiCd/NiMh rechargeables or alkalines (Although alkalines get a little spendy over time unless you go for the economy 16-pack for around 9 bucks)

I'd think a 12v 200mA wall adapter (center pin positive) that fits your socket, (might have to check for proper fit first) would charge your battery. I use the same for our Sitex HH-300 marine radio, except I had to reverse the plug connections as Sitex used a center-pin-negative configuration .

THIS might just be what you're looking for as a battery charger!

    Good Luck!
